What is STOP OD?
In the United States, opioid addiction has become an epidemic. Most of the manufactured opioid deaths happened in public, and most people who were present for the deaths did not have the knowledge to assist those who were dying.
Having to witness someone suffering from an opioid overdose or potentially dying can be frightening, and while we hope you will never have to witness such a thing, opioid overdoses occur way too often for you not to be prepared.
STOP OD was created as a mobile app to deploy community health workers (CHWs) in order to stop opioid overdoses in their tracks as quickly as possible. Fast on scene arrival, accurate overdose identification, and accurate Naloxone administration result from timely medical care.
As a result of the lack of public knowledge about how to save victims caused by drug overdose, previous attempts to save lives in an emergency involving drug overdose have consistently failed. In general, bystanders and family members who find themselves at the scene of a drug overdose do not usually have the training or education that is often associated with those who are in the medical field.
People are taught how to identify the signs of opioid overdose and how to offer appropriate treatment with STOP OD's application. Symptoms of opioid overdose may be similar to those of another condition. It is the goal of STOP OD to identify and prevent overdoses by preparing and training people in the detection process.
We are developing an on-demand app called STOP OD, which combats overdoses caused by opioids in all communities, ensuring that those of color are not impacted. STOP OD aims to prevent opioid overdoses and offer training to anyone willing to provide service in the community so as to mitigate preventable deaths. The bystander and relatives are given more control in these situations where they previously lacked it. When faced with a highly stressful situation such as an overdose, knowledge is power, as is the ability to retain control. STOP OD gives you the ability to potentially save a loved one's life by providing you with the resources to do so!
Understand that the person with an addiction will only seek help when they are ready, but that does not mean you cannot be a supportive person while equipping yourself with the necessary information. June Haywood and Dr. Jayfus Doswell created STOP OD as a collaborative effort through Applications Operation, LLC.
Application Operation, LLC., and STOP OD are on a mission to help prepare and train individuals to provide overdose treatment with speed and quality, thereby saving lives. Our vision is to create communication between health systems and individuals within their communities while eradicating health disparities.
